Altitude Light - Spherical 600

This pendant lighting concept uses the physical raising or lowering of the light to adjust the brightness, hence ‘more height.....more light’.

When used low to the floor, the Altitude emits a soft light with a single concentrated spot beam beneath. However, magically, the intensity of the light increases as the lamp is raised towards the ceiling, illuminating the spherical shade.

The light is currently prototyped with a 600mm diameter sand blasted PMMA outer shade and compact fluorescent light source. The variable dimming is created by a non electrical dimming inner shade that redistributes the light within the sphere as the light is elevated - this ensures flicker free, high quality lighting.

A version of Altitude was selected by Wayne & Gerardine Hemingway for their interior refit at the Institute of Directors' building on Pall Mall, London.
